About

Frustrated by the lack of representation in mainstream and traditional Filipino media, Hella Pinay was created as a platform for us to tell our own diverse, complex stories; a space to cover emerging creative culture while also exploring the many intersections and nuances of identity in the Filipino/a/x diaspora. We are a queer-led independent media/events company aiming to cultivate healing spaces of joy, self-expression and consent that center women, femmes and QTGNC folks as artists and creators.

We believe in disrupting the traditional media landscape and creating the reflections of ourselves that we want to see in the world. We aspire to build bridges, facilitate dialogue, and create entry points for digging deeper. We believe that creating a strong support network and sharing knowledge and experiences are critical to our emotional and mental well-being, and are key factors in healing of both self and community.

Founded in 2016 in Brooklyn, NY, Hella Pinay is now based in Oakland, CA with a global team of contributors from Pampanga to Toronto to Los Angeles.
