#MusicMonday: SAMMAY "FULL MOON" Video

You might already know her as a performance artist, choreographer, and founder of URBAN x INDIGENOUS, but did you know SAMMAY is also a super poppin singer/songwriter?? So a couple weeks ago - around the time of last month’s dreamy Full Moon in Pisces, fittingly - she casually dropped the visual for “FULL MOON”, the first music video from her forthcoming EP set to release this November. Based in the Bay Area and bred from the City of Carson and the ancient magic of her ancestral Bikolano/Kapampangan/Ilokano lineage, SAMMAY, aka Samantha Peñaflor Dizon, creates music that ignites ancestral memories through soulful, uplifting R&B grooves.

SAMMAY says the track “is a song that calls in expansive holistic love forms for all who are journeying through the cosmos and celebrates the potentialities gifted by the full moon.” Produced by LOKY and shot by RJ “Kool Raul” Navalta, the video was shot on the Full/Pink Moon back in April and features choreography by SAMMAY herself, a stunning and unique blend of Hip Hop, urban dance, and contemporary movement with African diaspora influence.

“It's always been a dream of mine to manifest a music video that highlights my interdisciplinary gifts - conceptualizing, producing, directing, writing, singing, choreographing, and of course performing…It's really just been about finding alignment for myself and thereby aligning with the right people who share in the vision - not letting the voice inside of me psyche me out. this music video shoot…was a serious affirmation to this trajectory of my artistry and being in the world. My intention was to honor both the sacred feminine and sacred masculine and take us on a journey to how we might arrive to the ‘celestial-ancestral underground realm party’ on any given day... highlighting every nuance of love along the way.”

She adds: “most of all, this video highlights our J O Y. Brown joy. Black joy. Queer joy. We even have one of our elders getting down with us!!! I will never forget the incredible energy and the feeling of true alignment that this day encompassed. Ancestral energy most definitely made it possible.”
